National study shows 76% of AC coils are prone to refrigerant leaks inside the home!
I was in a Air Conditioning training yesterday and was surprised to learn that 76% of R-22 copper AC coils were found to have leaks in a national study done by the Carrier Corporation. 3 out of 4 homes in the study have refrigerant leaking into their homes! Not only is this unhealthy and damaging to the environment, it will damage the compressor (the expensive outdoor unit) and cause your system to run inefficiently and eventually fail. Fortunately, the industry standards have changed and R-22 refrigerant is no longer used in new systems. Many manufacturers have also changed to aluminum coils which are not nearly as prone to leaks as the old systems. If you have an older AC unit in the Colorado Springs area and suspect a leak, give the A&A Pro’s a call at 719-533-0800. We also offer great deals on AC cleanings, safety check, and start-up.
